Marussia B2 teaser - Click above for high-res image gallery

The hybrid Marussia B1 was unveiled last year, and can now be ordered for €100,000 (about $146,000 USD) while it is being prepared for serial production. Two of them will be on display at next week's the Frankfurt Motor Show alongside the company's latest car, the Marussia B2, being teased in the photo above. We don't know anything about the new model except that it has been "created in the style of a jet fighter."

Feel free to glean all the details you can in the peek-a-boo shots below, and stay tuned for the complete picture next week when we get to Frankfurt. Hat tip to Gregor!

Rush Rush Rally Racing for Dreamcast -- Click above to watch video after the jump

Hypothetically, let's say you're bored with all the realistic gameplay and endless tuning options of current racing games. What you really want is a rallying game that looks like it was released alongside Pole Position, or Frogger, with cars that look something like colored insects, and -- best of all -- that you can only play from an overhead view. In that case, friends, Rush Rush Rally Racing for the 10-year-old Sega Dreamcast is for you.

The developers themselves tout the facts that RRRR has no sponsored cars nor realistic backgrounds. What is does have is features like single-player grand prix mode with four difficulty levels, three multiplayer modes to enjoy with up to four players, five race cars to choose from, 10 Grand Prix race tracks and 9 additional multiplayer race track. Oh, and an "awesome soundtrack by Black Device." So there. It's also just $22, available at Amazon and eBay next month. Follow the jump to watch the game trailer.

Need for Speed: Shift Car Battle Mode -- Click above to watch video after the jump

Need for Speed: Shift has added a Car Battle mode that pits some of the fastest, fittest, downright nastiest machinery out there in head-to-head matchups. Fifteen different matchups are possible with cars like the Ford GT going against the Dodge Viper, Cayman and M3 sports car racers battling it out, and Murcielago and DBRS GT-class cars going for honors. The point is to pit unmodified cars against one another to find out which car -- and which driver -- is the business. The game is due out next week. You can check out the video after the jump to start figuring out which cars you want to go showdown with...

Mazda3, Dodge Journey net IIHS Top Safety Pick ratings
September 12, 2009 at 2:33 pm

Filed under:

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) has named its latest three Top Safety Pick award winners. The models include the 2010 Dodge Journey, 2010 Lincoln MKT, and Mazda's 2010 Mazda3. All three are equipped with standard side airbags. Stability control is standard on the Dodge and Lincoln, but optional on the Mazda.

Unlike the 35 mph head-on barrier crash testing conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and its resulting 1- to 5-star ratings, the IIHS frontal test runs the driver's side of a vehicle into a deformable barrier at 40 mph and then assigns one of four ratings (Good, Acceptable, Marginal or Poor) based on occupant injury, vehicle structure integrity, and the movement of the crash dummy within the cabin. In order to earn a Top Safety Pick award, the vehicles must earn the highest ("Good") rating in the agency's frontal, side, and rear impact testing... and be equipped with electronic stability control. The IIHS tests vehicles and announces its Top Safety Picks throughout the year.

The Ferrari 458 Italia shows itself around Maranello
September 12, 2009 at 1:02 pm

The Ferrari 458 has been introducing itself to company workers and to what could be potential customers. The verdict: we're still not sure about the triplicate exhaust, but the car is fo' dam' sho' hot, and probably the best looking black prancing horse we've ever seen. (I'll take a black 512 BB, thanks. - Ed. ) Posters at FerrariChat.com have noticed that the show cars are missing LEDs on the steering wheel, which means -- usuprisingly -- Ferrari has a lot of expensive options in mind for the car.

People at the presentation also spoke of some of the finer points of the cars -- in four different colors -- such as the trunk shape, plastic pieces of interior trim, and the placement of the horse emblem where a front license plate will need to go in many countries. We will bring you more details from the Frankfurt floor next week, but in the meantime enjoy the pictorial show.

Can't wait until Forza 3 hits stores on October 27th? You're in luck! Turn 10 Studios has announced that a demo version will be available on Xbox LIVE Marketplace starting September 24th, allowing you to get a taste of the improved graphics and new features that will be a part of the third installment of the racing game. The preview includes the full circuit of the Camino Viejo racetrack, a mountain course inspired by roads outside of Barcelona, as well as a selection of five cars:
  • 2007 Porsche #80 Flying Lizard 911 GT3 RSR
  • 2010 Audi R8 5.2 FSI Quattro
  • 2009 Ferrari California
  • 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X GSR
  • 2009 Mini John Cooper Works
The demo will also allow you to experience new aspects of the game like the full cockpit view and the rewind feature. As with FM2, damage and rollovers are part of the game, meaning you'll have to avoid the guardrails if you want to cross the finish line in one piece. Need something more to whet your taste? Check out the newly-released Forza 3 intro video after the jump.

Richard Petty Motorsports drops Dodge for Ford, joins Yates Racing

Richard Petty with his Ford Torino Cobra at the 1969 Daytona 500 - Click above for high-res image

As expected, Richard Petty Motorsports will no longer race in NASCAR using Chrysler vehicles after the current season, instead turning to Ford and joining forces with Yates Racing. The first sign of discontentment between the Pentastar and Petty came shortly after Chrysler filed for bankruptcy and halted payment to Petty's racing organization.

For the 2010 season, the new group will field a team of drivers consisting of Kasey Kahne, A.J. Allmendinger, Paul Menard and Elliott Sadler. At this point, its unclear what will happen with Reed Sorenson, Bobby Labonte and Erik Darnell, the three drivers currently left out of the new team's plans.

You'd have to turn back the clock a full 40 years to see the last time Richard Petty raced with Ford. Petty won a total of nine races in 1969, his lone season driving a car from the Blue Oval, before eventually losing out on the title to David Pearson's Holman Moody-prepped Ford Torino.

Spy Shots: 2010 Audi A8 is met by the sculptor's rasp
September 12, 2009 at 10:05 am

The evolution of any Audi is a study in subtlety. The evolution of the A8, even by Audi standards, has been especially delicate, going from brazen lozenge to the softly curved - and elegant - geometric form it is today. There is nothing sculpted about it, and perhaps the most notable styling element the entire time has been the sedan's gaping grille.

Yet based on the teaser for and spy shots of the next version, it looks like the A8 is going has had the sculptors' hands laid upon it. Even under the camo, one can see the distinctly raised hood line and the Bangle-esque trunk line. Even though the car is longer, the greenhouse appears to be shorter, but that could be an effect of the camouflage and the way the C-pillar now flows into the sloping rear deck.

Also in contrast to the current model, the trunk is no longer flush with the rear panels, so the rear lights are broken up on two different planes, and might even be staggered - reminiscent of the previous BMW 7 Series design. We'll find out how it all comes together soon enough, but this redesign could be the biggest thing to hit the A8 since... the A8.
